Constitution

  • Name
    • The name of the Association shall be 'Shōtō Karate Jutsu'.
  • Objectives
    • The objectives of the Association shall be the teaching, development and practice of karate, self defence and other martial arts, development of character and associated mental disciplines for its members.
    In the furtherance of these objectives:
    • The Association is committed to treat everyone equally within the context of its activity. This shall be, for example, regardless of sex, ethnic origin, religion, disability or political persuasion, on any grounds.
    • Chief Instructors and Instructors must have Instructor’s insurance with public liability and professional indemnity, valid up to date DBS check (previously called CRB) and valid up to date first aid training.
  • Membership
    • A member will be excluded from the Association if the member is seen to be violent, have an unsuitable character and / or has a criminal record that the Association deems unacceptable to the learning of martial arts.
    • A member must have a valid Association licence to participate in any Association activities unless a new member within the initial trial period.
    • A member must have a valid Association licence and fully up to date with Association fees before grading and/or obtaining promotion.
    • A member is only allowed to use the martial arts within a dojo and under supervision of an Instructor / Sensei unless used for the solo purpose of self defence of themselves, friends and/or family.
    • The total membership of the Association shall not normally be limited. If however the Association considers that there is a good reason to impose any limit from time to time then the Association shall enforce a limit.
    • The members shall honour and obey the rules and regulations the Constitution of Shōtō Karate Jutsu.
  • Lessons
    • When training outdoor shoes must not be worn in the Dojo.
    • No swearing once inside the Dojo.
    • Fingernails and toe nails must be clean and cut.
    • All rings, and earrings, chains etc must be removed or covered before training.
    • Gi’s and clothing must be clean and ironed.
    • Attention must be paid to personal hygiene.
    • No drinking of alcohol or drugs to be taken before or during training.
    • No smoking or eating in the Dojo.
    • It is advisable not to eat or drink for at least one and a half hours before training.
    • The Sensei's or instructor's command must be obeyed at all times.
    • Members that have not trained in the club for over four months when you return they will be downgraded to white belt until they obtain your previous standard.
    • Members must bow when entering the Dojo.
    • Members must bow to their training partner before and after each practise session.
    • When joining the class members must ask the Sensei's permission.
    • When arriving late members must wait on the side of the Dojo until the Sensei's permission is given.
    • Members must not talk during instruction.
    • If a member is injured this must be reported to the Sensei.
